BIOMIMICRY INTRODUCTION
Claire was one of 16 international people who recently graduated from a 2-year Biomimicry training. She is helping to coordinate a Biomimicry Course and Educators Course to be held in South Africa in mid Sep 2010 (to be run by the staff of the Biomimicry Institute in the USA). If you would like to organise an introductory talk on Biomimicry for your organisation, or if you'd like more information and dates about the Biomimicry course, contact claire@geniuslab.co.za

Vision for the Future

There's a lot of doom and gloom around of what might happen to us and our planet in the future. What we are calling for, is a collective vision for a wonderful future. There's no need to project forward the past or the present. Imagination and dreaming is what this is about. Here's a chance for all of us to vision a different future, a vision of a great future, a wonderful future.
We're inviting you to send us your vision for the future of our planet. This is a chance for you to dream the future of your dreams. Write it, draw it, make a video, make a podcast, a presentation. We've created a page where we'll post the visions, written or drawn. If it's a podcast, post it on Youtube and we'll put a link to it. If you know of another website with inspiration for a wonderful future, we'll put a link to it. We hope to hold a space for a collective vision of what the future of our planet could be, and will be if we hold the vision.
Step 1: Visit our inspiration page
Step 2: Take time to do a visioning process for yourself
Step 3: Start by taking one action towards making that vision a possibility
Step 4: Send us (email claire@geniuslab.co.za or amanda@geniuslab.co.za) your vision and a small picture of you to post on our 2013 and beyond vision page. You can also tell us the first action you have taken towards that vision.
Step 5: Hold that vision for yourself
Step 6: Read the other visions on the growing page and imagine the combined visions growing together into a new possibility for the future of our planet.

The Genius Lab was honoured to participate in the learning adventure that the CSE teachers create for the children everyday. This is a school for great minds in small bodies. Claire and i had a fabulous time teaching quantum physics to 3 year olds on the first day of the Lab after they had created their day and done their remote views. We hope to collaborate further with the emerging genius at the Childrens School of Excellence in Yelm. For more on that school you can go to their website: www.cseinfo.com

5. GENIUS LAB In the News!
Read the article about the Genius Laboratory in the April/May 2007 Biophile Magazine www.biophile.co.za
An article written about the Genius Lab Intro workshop appeared in the Sunday Times Metro, 28 January 2007:
The Golden Workshop, by Loren Anthony
A few years ago, my very clever friend Elise Castelyn lent me a book called The Golden Ratio by Mario Livio. Usually I am quite religious about returning books. I know that feeling of dispossession that takes hold of you when you think someone is not going to give back your best-loved book. But I had serious thoughts of dispossessing her of this brilliant book on mathematics. In the end, virtue won out and I handed it over. It is a radiant book, exploring the “sacred geometry” that underlines the universe.
It looks expressly at a special mathematical ratio called the Golden Ratio (1.618 to be precise) that can be found in anything from the whorl of a nautilus shell to the layout of the Parthenon, from the paintings of Da Vinci to the structure of the human body. It’s a fascinating read and I wanted to take up this thread and explore it further. But life intervened, and these intriguing thoughts - on the underlying geometry of the universe -got put on hold. And then an invitation arrived in my email box from the Genius Lab, a community of future thinkers and “imagineers”, who run monthly workshops on anything from Quantum Physics to String Theory, from antigravity to sonofusion.
Claire Janisch holds degrees in Chemical and Environmental Engineering while Amanda Gifford has a Masters in Psychology and is a Drama Therapist. They are both passionate about our ability to solve the problems that face the planet, and our ability to become ”imagineers” – people who actively use their imaginations to engineer change and technology breakthroughs.
Many of the people attending the workshop work in the field of sustainability – how to transcend the seemingly limitless demand for limited resources on earth. But the workshop is not just for scientists and technophiles. It’s family-friendly, and that’s what I loved most about it. There were mothers and sons, fathers and daughters attending, and there seemed to be an immensely hopeful message: that we have a better model of the universe to hand over to our children.
The first day of the workshop set about explaining this model. We listened intently to a mind-blowing, multi-media introduction to Chaos Theory, String Theory, Sacred Geometry, etc. Claire, who is superbly well-named, condensed madly complicated material with great clarity. And my nine-year-old daughter easily grasped the notion of the universe as a cyclic, implosive, centripetal, self-sustaining donut. Amidst the theory there was music (the Ancient Egyptians called matter “frozen music”) and laughter and play, and lots of frosted donuts were eaten. I watched my daughter blossom and glow in the free-flow of ideas, and the utterly positive, hopeful energy of this community of thinkers.
Day Two saw us creating our own Dream Boards, busily tearing words and images from magazines to create a collage of our capabilities. We became kids again, putting together a patchwork of promises to ourselves, a vision board for what we wanted to achieve in the coming year. Tony Lopes, an electrical engineer who drives a hybrid bakkie fueled by recycled vegetable oil (oil from French Fries!), dreams of joining ZERI (the Zero Emissions Research Institute) in Cape Town. The charismatic Momo Radovanovic is an expert on anti-gravity and free energy technology, and is hopeful of harnessing extra-terrestrial technology.
The workshop was packed with similar people who dare to dream another universe, and make that dream real. In this fertile environment, I watched my beautiful daughter wake from a slumber, wake to a new world of infinite possibilities.
