GENIUSES
In this section, we've put together a brief introduction to a group of some of the geniuses that inspire us. This list will be regularly updated, but for now, it includes:
THE GENI IN US!
When we hear the word genius, we think of lots of people, but never ourselves. But each of us has a creative genius within – the part of ourselves that knows how to innovate and develop new ideas.

- Philosopher
“I believe sincerely that every person has consummate genius within. Some appear to have it more than others only because they are aware of it more than others are. The awareness or unawareness of it is what makes each one of them into masters or holds them down to mediocrity. I believe that mediocrity is self inflicted and that genius is self-bestowed. Every successful man I have ever known, and I have known a great many. Carries within him the key which unlocks that awareness and lets in the universal power that has made him into a master. The key is desire…”

Albert Einstein
"Great ideas often receive violent opposition from mediocre minds."
In popular culture, the name "Einstein" has become synonymous with great intelligence and genius. Einstein was named Time magazine's "Man of the Century."
He was known for many scientific investigations, among which were: his special theory of relativity which stemmed from an attempt to reconcile the laws of mechanics with the laws of the electromagnetic field, his general theory of relativity which extended the principle of relativity to include gravitation, relativistic cosmology, capillary action, critical opalescence, classical problems of statistical mechanics and problems in which they were merged with quantum theory, leading to an explanation of the Brownian movement of molecules; atomic transition probabilities, the probabilisti interpretation of quantum theory, the quantum theory of a monatomic gas, the thermal properties of light with a low radiation density which laid the foundation of the photon theory of light, the theory of radiation, including stimulated emission; the construction of a unified field theory, and the geometrization of physics.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (1452 –1519) was an Italian polymath: scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, musician, and writer.
He was born and raised in Vinci, Italy, the illegitimate son of a notary, Messer Piero, and a peasant woman, Caterina. He had no surname in the modern sense; "da Vinci" simply means "of Vinci". His full birth name was "Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci", meaning "Leonardo, son of (Mes)ser Piero from Vinci."
Leonardo has been described as the archetype of the "Renaissance man", a man infinitely curious and equally inventive. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time, and the man with the most diversely prodigious talent ever to have lived.
It is primarily for his painted works that Leonardo has been held in renown, even during his own lifetime. Two of his works, the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper occupying unique positions as the most famous, the most illustrated and most imitated portrait and religious painting of all time, only approached in fame by Michelangelo's Creation of Adam. His drawing of the Vitruvian Man is also iconic.
As an engineer, Leonardo conceived ideas vastly ahead of his own time, conceptually inventing a helicopter, a tank, the use of concentrated solar power, a calculator, a rudimentary theory of plate tectonics, the double hull, and many others. Relatively few of his designs were constructed or were feasible during his lifetime. Some of his smaller inventions such as an automated bobbin winder and a machine for testing the tensile strength of wire entered the world of manufacturing unheralded.
In practice, he greatly advanced the state of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, astronomy, civil engineering, optics, and the study of water (hydrodynamics). Of his works, only a few paintings survive, together with his notebooks (scattered among various collections) containing drawings, scientific diagrams, and notes.

Jim Thorpe
Jacobus Franciscus "Jim" Thorpe (Sac and Fox Nation: Wa-Tho-Huk) (1887– 1953) is considered one of the most versatile athletes in modern sports. He won Olympic gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon, starred in college and professional football, played Major League Baseball and also had a career in basketball. He subsequently lost his Olympic titles when it was found he had played two seasons of minor league baseball prior to competing in the games (thus violating the amateur status rules). In 1983, thirty years after his death, his medals were restored.
Describing Jim Thorpe as a great athlete would be doing him a severe injustice. A better description would be calling him the greatest athlete of the 20th Century. This label will probably be debated by many, but Thorpe's accomplishments speak louder than words. King Gustav V of Sweden told Thorpe: "Sir, you are the greatest athlete in the world."
His Indian name, Wa-Tho-Huk, translated to "Bright Path", something that Thorpe definitely had ahead of him. When he was on the ship crossing the Atlantic to Sweden on his
way to the 1912 Olympics in Stockholm , Thorpe was told that he had to be entered in at least two events to participate in the games. His assigned events were long-distance running and the broad jump, which was a completely new sport to him. Thorpe’s tribal name was Wa-Tho-Huk, which means “Bright Path.” There is no doubt that he took this path in his physical training. He had learned the power of visualization as a child and applied it in his amazing feats of running. And now he would apply it to this entirely new sport. Thorpe put out a wide strip of white tape on the deck of the ship and then lined up a deckchair twenty-three feet, three inches away from the line. This was one inch more than the current world record. But he never attempted to actually jump the distance. He simply sat in the chair visualizing the playing field and the distance he had to clear. His preparation for the event was in the inner laboratory he created on the ship’s deck. For most of the day during the eight-day journey, he sat stubbornly in the chair creating a focused space, until it resonated perfectly between how he would perform on the playing field and what he knew he could do in his own mind. In his own words: “I just sat in that chair until I truly believed I could jump the distance.” The first time Jim Thorpe ever broad jumped, he set a world record.

Neville Goddard
Neville (1905-1972) was a theatre actor but gave that up in 1932 to devote his attention to his studies in mysticism. He began his lecture career in New Your City and travelled throughout the US. In the 1950's he gave a series of talks on US television. His ten books, written over a period of some thirty years, deal with creative visualisation and transformation of consciousness. His books include the stories of people who wrote to him about the changes in their lives through the use of imagination in genius ways!

“The science of imagining proves itself in performance. The world in which we live is a world of imagination. In fact, life itself is an activity of imagining. An awakened imagination works with a purpose. It creates and conserves the desirable, and transforms or destroys the undesirable. The world in which we live is a world of imagination, and man – through his imaginal activities – creates the realities and the circumstances of life; this he does either knowingly or unknowingly. If you long to escape from your present sense fixation, to transform your present life into a dream of what might well be, you need to but imagine. Like the make-believe of a child who is remaking the world after its own heart, create your world out of pure dreams of fancy. You will discover that dreams are realized not by the rich but by the imaginative. Imagine better than the best you know, and create a better world for yourself and others.” - Extracted from “The Law & The Promise” by Neville

Anastasia
In 1994 a Siberian elder told the entrepreneur Vla dimir Megre a fascinating story about the "ringing cedars" - trees respected from Biblical times for their curative powers and the capacity to re-connect human beings with the Divine. The elder told him where such a ringing cedar was growing in the Siberian backwoods. Vladimir Megre set out on an expedition to find the tree. But his encounter with the elder's granddaughter Anastasia transformed him so deeply that he abandoned his commercial plans and, penniless, went to Moscow to write a book about the insights she shared with him. What happened next thrilled and inspired millions!
The books, which read like a fascinating novel, have an authenticity of a documentary account and present spiritual insights of incredible depth, are believed to be a most significant masterpiece of Russian literature and one of the most important revelations in the history of humanity. These highly unusual books provide extraordinary insights into dozens of subjects - from natural child rearing to the production of high-energy, healing foods, from the meaning of human life to the amazing potential that awaits every one of us, from ancient megalithic science to the hidden history of world religions.
Megre presents Anastasia's deep understanding of Mankind's innate spiritual connection to Nature and provides practical solutions to the problems currently facing humanity. He reveals her brilliant vision for the future of this planet, one full of hope and possibility. Her words of wisdom inspire and uplift in a way that has an immediate and profound impact on the reader.

The Genius of Biomimicry - Janine Benyus uncovers innovation inspired by the genius of nature!
Janine Benyus draws her design inspiration from nature's wisdom, not people's cleverness. Some 3.8 billion years of evolution have exposed the design flaws of roughly 99% of nature's creations — all recalled by the Manufacturer. The 1% that have survived can teach powerful lessons about how things should be built if they're to last. For example, nature's design genius has led to the creation of bat-inspired ultrasonic canes for the blind, synthetic sheets that collect water from mist and fog as desert beetles do, and paint that self-cleans like a lotus leaf. Little plastic-film patches have been designed using adhesiveless gecko-foot technology, so that carpet tiles can be stored in a big roll, but also easily removed. Equally promising, we'll soon make solar cells like leaves, supertough ceramics that resemble the inner shells of abalone, and underwater glue that mimics the natural as forests.
Biomimicry isn't biotechnology. Biomimicry learns and emulates how spiders make silk; biotechnology transplants spiders' silk-making genes into goats, then sorts silk from milk and hopes the genes don't get loose. Biotechnology is smart kids in an oil depot with matches; biomimicry is wise adults in a rain forest with flashlights. Biotechnology is pure hubris; biomimicry is luminous humility — treating nature as model and mentor, cherished not as a mine to be stripped of its resources but as a teacher.

William McDonough & Michael Brangaurt
William McDonoughis a world-renowned architect and designer and winner of three U.S. presidential awards: the Presidential Award for Sustainable Development (1996), the National Design Award (2004); and the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award (2003). Time magazine recognized him as a “Hero for the Planet” in 1999, stating that “his utopianism is grounded in a unified philosophy that – in demonstrable and practical ways – is changing the design of the world.” Dr Michael Brangaurt has a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Hannover in 1985, he had assumed leadership of Greenpeace Chemistry.
In 1987, Dr. Braungart founded the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency (EPEA) in Hamburg. At the heart of EPEA is the "Intelligent Products System" (IPS), which creates products oriented toward a lifecycle economy and earned the Océ-van der Grinten Award in 1993.
The two work together in their product design and development firm, MBDC (www.mbdc.com). They have also co-authored Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things and The Hannover Principles: Design for Sustainability, and were instrumental in the creation of the compostable fabric line Climatex® Lifecycle™.
‘We want to design buildings that, like trees, convert solar energy, putting more energy back into the grid than they consume. We want to create factories that produce effluents you can safely drink. We foresee products that, when their useful life is over, do not become useless waste. They can be tossed to the ground to decompose into food for plants and animals – nutrients for the soil – or alternatively can be returned to industrial cycles to supply high-quality raw materials for new products. Transportation that improves the quality of life while delivering goods and services. Design a product in an ecologically intelligent way and you can use it as many times as you want. I see a world of abundance, not one of limits, pollution and waste’ - Bill McDonough & Michael Brangaurt
